We host a
BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE Learning Bluegrass Jam the FIRST and THIRD Tuesday evenings each month.
Jams are from 7:00 - 10:00.
To speed page loading, I do not place the photos on the
listings pages, but indicate where they can be seen with this icon:
.
If you're curious about seeing something that does not have a photo, and
would like us to email free custom photos, just ask!
New Arrivals/Specials/Announcements:
If you have pop-ups turned off, you may wish to allow them on this site, as I only use them for emergency notices (unscheduled closings, etc). We set no cookies, so you don't have to worry about them, either.
Many folks tell me they check this page daily. If you're using Firefox (which I most highly recommend), you can install a drop-down list of the last month's worth of new items in your tool bar (it will look like this when you click the icon to open it). Opera, IE v.7, and Safari will also allow you to subscribe, but not via the cool dropdown icon. Or, you can receive the feed in many emailers (works great with Thunderbird) or stand-alone RSS readers (I also use the WizzRSS news aggregator add-on/extension with Firefox; Firefox is definitely the coolest method). Anyway, just click the link below and subscribe!

Other items of potential interest:
- 21 Jan: Interested in getting into the banjo, but confused about playing styles?
Check out this short (16mb) wmv video.
- Look who stopped in again: One of the world's best banjo players and our good friend, Ryan Cavanaugh, who is now off for a tour in France and Italy with legendary saxophone player, Bill Evans.
- By all means, check out our Helpful Tips Page for some miscellaneous, but potentially interesting tips and compilations of things, including step-by step instructions, video clips, etc.
- Ryan Cavanaugh,
of the band The Ryan Cavanaugh Trio and winner of the 2003 Merlefest and 2004 Rocky Grass banjo contests, stopped in to try banjos in December of 2003.
Ryan lives in Chapel Hill, NC, and is accepting banjo students: you can contact him at banjoryan@hotmail.com.
- In October 2003 we had an unexpected, yet most welcome visit from British folk legend Martin Carthy. Sorry, no Martin MC Carthy signature editions in stock, but it was nice to see him! He wasn't hawking guitars, anyway, but stopped in with Tom MacKenzie, a musician who had taken lessons from me ca. 1970 and who wanted to stop by to say "hello."
- OK, it's nothing for sale, but my good friend and builder of excellent banjos, Mike Ramsey stopped in the store for a visit 28 August 2003. So, of course, I had to get a photo of us (I'm the old one on the right)
- Wanna see if you belong at our Learning Bluegrass Jams?
Here's a low-fi, 2 minute sound clip recorded at one of the jams (there's also a link on the Learning Jam page, of course)
- Want to see an eye-full of my wife's hot pink Goodtime banjo with a Prism head? Here's your chance!
- Check out this curious homemade banjo
