It has a (flamed!) maple neck, a maple pot, and a rolled brass tone ring to go along with an scooped ebony fingerboard.
This particular banjo has an added twist: the scoop has been extended by one fret to form a 16th fret notch--the first of Mike's banjos that I've seen like this.
With a hardshell case, this is a great banjo for a great price: $1000. Out of stock
Mike's Student model is, IMHO, the best bargain on the OT banjo market. It's a hand-crafted, made in the USA banjo with the sonic system that put Mike on the banjo map.
