Enoch Instruments

The Tradesman

Enoch Tradesman Enoch Instruments was formally established in 1990. Kevin's goal is to create an instrument designed for clawhammer playing, embracing the aesthetics of the great banjo makers of the early 20th century. Kevin's love for the music, as well as his craft, is apparent in the degree of care and precision he puts into every detail of these musical masterpieces.

So well regarded are Kevin's banjos, that he had a multi-year waiting list a decade ago, and still cannot meet demand. As a result, he designed and made available a simple clawhammer instrument, priced as an entry-level banjo, but with professional quality playability and sound: the Tradesman

Tradesman necks are designed to be similar in shape to some of the early Dobsons, and are all reinforced by graphite rods.

All Tradesman banjos are priced with an Enoch-branded gig bag. Hardshell cases are, of course, available.

Please see below for options, pricing, and availability.

Cherry Tradesman The Tradesman is a plain, simple available in either cherry...
         Walnut Tradesman or in walnut.
Cherry Tradesman neck The cherry necks are gorgeous, of course.          Walnut Tradesman neck Despite the beauty of cherry, I prefer the appearance of walnut. But, hey, that's just me!
Walnut fretless Tradesman They are also available fretted (1-15) or fretless. A full 22 frets are available on special order for a slight upcharge.          Half-fretted Tradesman They are even available half-fretted.
Half-fretted Tradesman On the half-fretted models, the 1st-5th "fret" area is raised to the level of the higher frets for ease of playing.          Flush-fretted fretless Tradesman They are even available with "flush frets," i.e., with inlaid, flush strips where the frets would be, if there were any (makes it really easy to find your way around the neck!).
Tradesman carving A particularly impressive touch is the nice carving at the heel/pot joint           Cherry Tradesman peghead The fingerboards are ebony, and the pegheads are not overlain, so the neck woods' beauty shows for both the cherry or...
Walnut Tradesman peghead the peghead of a walnut banjo.           Tradesman tuners They are fitted with planetary tuners with black buttons. The banjos in stock have Gotoh brand planetaries.
Tradesman pot Their 12-inch, thin maple pots are painted black, and have a shaped, wooden tone rim.           Tradesman pot The multifaceted dowel sticks are of wood to match the neck woods.
Tradesman 11 head The Tradesman is also available with an 11-inch pot           Tradesman 11 heel The smaller, 11-inch pot may be more comfortable, and is definitely lighter.
